Highlights From The Disrupt Europe 2013 Hackathon

3 Nov

This past weekend, we brought together 500 of Berlin’s finest coders, designers, and builders for our first ever Disrupt Europe Hackathon. Teams had to slam together the best thing they could build from the ground up in just 24 hours, with $5,000, a chance to present your project in the main Disrupt Europe conference, and tons of other prizes up for grabs.

Couldn’t make it? It’s okay — there will be another one. In the mean time, TCTV has put together a lil’ video to show to give you a sense of the energy, exhaustion, and raw talent involved with an event like this.

While the judges had to pick just three winners, we were absolutely blown away by all of the projects — so much so, in fact, that we ended up giving tickets to Disrupt Europe to every single team that presented (we originally planned on giving tickets to the Top 40 or 50 teams, but there were just too many projects that we all liked.)

50 Cent Pleads No Contest to Vandalism, Gets Domestic Violence Charges Dismissed

2 Nov

After pleading not guilty in August 2013 to charges of domestic violence and vandalism, 50 Cent has gotten a bit of a break, according to his lawyer.

All domestic violence charges against the 38-year-old rapper, whose real name is Curtis Jackson, have been dismissed.

“The agreement called for Mr. Jackson to plead no contest to a single count of misdemeanor vandalism, which deals with the door of the apartment that was damaged and owned by the landlord,” says his attorney Scott Leemon in a statement. “All remaining counts, including, the domestic violence charge will be dismissed. He has agreed to perform community service, attend counseling sessions and will be on unsupervised probation for a period of three years.”

The original charges came about after 50 Cent was accused of kicking his ex-girlfriend Daphne Narvaez and destroying her Los Angeles condo in an argument on June 23, 2013.

At the time, the hip hop star was facing up to five years in prison and $46,000 worth of fines, but according to the agreement, he will instead perform community service and attend counseling sessions during his three-year probation.

Let the Calls for White House Shake-Up Begin

Remember last May, when we learned that the president didn’t know the IRS was harassing Republicans, even after his chief of staff had been given a heads-up on the issue — presumably so that he would tell the president what was occurring? I wrote then that the president must have thanked his staff for keeping him in the dark and encouraged them to continue to do so.
